OK, so I feel like I've been pretty clear about the fact that we are kookoo for the Olympics. And to be honest, the Opening Ceremony is never really something that I look forward to, or even remember much from.
Until now.
Everything about the Opening Ceremony was stinkin' amazing! The humongous LCD screen, the hundreds of people under the moving boxes, the drums, the tai chi people in perfect circles, the bird's nest, the torch lighting...shall I go on?
I will officially remember the Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony. Kudos to those who dreamt up something that took the world's breath away.

BBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRIIIIINNNNGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!
dwain, watcha talkin' 'bout? Phil' blog? C'mon, the ceremony was unbelievable...how could that many humans do those things with such precision? Can you imagine Americans trying to do the same thing? To me it highlights a different attitude among the culture...no prima donas among the 15,000 particpants it didn't seem.
DUDE!!!!
USA!USA!USA!
WOOOOOOOOOO!!!
How about that 4X100 freestyle relay finish?! I was off the couch cheering and pumping fists!
I love the Olympics!
The people hanging from the wires was alright. The guy who actually lit the torch was pretty neat how he ran on the wall, but dude, did he have to take 30 minutes to run around the whole arena. Run 100 yards, light the torch, just don't drag it out.
However, I will agree with Phil on the 4x100 freestyle race. AWESOME! What did you say Frenchy? I couldn't believe Lezak made up so much ground in the last 10 yards.
All I can say is go to nbcolympics.com and watch the opening ceremonies with the moving boxes grid thing. Nothing else to say but....DUDE! And 4x100? DDDUUUUDDDDEEEE!!! Rock on USA!!
dwain, I agree with you in part, it takes sooooo long for all the athletes to march into the arena, I get bored with that. And for some reason, the torch bearer always goes all the way around before lighting it. But, the PERFORMANCE! UNBELIEVABLE!
London will never be able to top that, I don't think there are enough people in London!!!(I fell asleep before the 4x100 relay, but, I am almost sure one of those channels will re-run at least the end on tonight's coverage. GO USA!!!
jbrown: I am glad somebody is finally backing me up here. I forgot about all the athletes parading in..zzzzzzzzzzzz. Also, normally the person just runs around the track don't they? Running around the top of the stadium like that guy did probably added 50% to his distance. You figure that the top of the arena is at least that much bigger than the infield. Also, the way he was strapped he was running so slow. They could have whipped him around there in half the time.
Good point on the London opening ceremonies. There is definitely not enough people in London to pull that off.
Anyone changing their minds with the recent revelations regarding CGI fireworks and lipsyncing performers?
Maybe there was only 10 people on the field and the rest were computer graphics? :)
