This week has been...

a. stinky
As you may or may not know, last week I had to have the transmission on my Mustang rebuilt. It was making a heinous knocking noise, so I took it in to the shop, and sure enough, something had broken, and it needed to be fixed. OK - very expensive repair, but it had to be done. So I pick it up on Friday night, drive it a couple days and on Tuesday, I'm driving in 2nd gear on Loop 337 around New Braunfels, when all of a sudden, 2nd gear disappears - it's no longer an option. I take it in to the shop on Wednesday, and it has to be fixed (thankfully the repairs were guaranteed). So I get it back Wednesday night, drive it for a few days and today, on the way home from church...you guessed it...2nd gear has officially disappeared again. Stinky doesn't begin to describe it...

b. busy
Since Tuesday, every night this week we've had something going on. Tuesday was LNB graduation and a Kindergarten prep meeting for Katy's new school. Wednesday, Anna did the actual registration for Katy for Kindergarten (dual language) and then we had the last youth Bible study at Landa Park. Thursday night was the FPC Church Council meeting. Friday night I had a meeting with a couple I'm marrying next weekend, and a rehearsal for Saturday's wedding. Saturday morning we got up and did yard work, stopped in time for me to shower and head to the church for a wedding, then we saw the new Narnia movie - Prince Caspian with the youth from our church (and a few others). Today, I preached in the two traditional services at FPC, watched the first three quarters of the Cavs game (they lost...grrr), went to softball practice, then came home and re-planted a rose bush (that in Anna's opinion was 3 inches to the right of where it should have been). Busy doesn't really fully describe it either...

c. painful
We're getting old. Anna is constantly hurting herself on relatively routine tasks like laundry and walking. After our gardening excursion on Saturday, I had a wicked chafe happening, and for some reason, both Anna and I got a zit this week. What's happening? We're falling apart!

d. a reminder that we're getting old (see c.) and lame (see below)
After my rehearsal on Friday night, our friends stopped by and we watched the Cavaliers vs. Celtics game 6 (not lame), and had an amazingly fun time searching through youtube for the theme songs to our favorite 80's television programs (significantly lame). I'm not ashamed to say that it was fun, though! A few favorites:

And the one that got us started:

We got really good at critiquing them. We noticed how they all used similar text and how long the intros to our favorite shows used to be! We found one that was almost 2 minutes long! Feel free to leave your favorite as a link on the comment page! I know, I know...neither old nor lame really describe it.

So...that's why it's been a few days between posts. I have plans to be a little more diligent with it this week - but we'll see how that goes after I leave the Mustang at the shop again tomorrow morning...

Until next time - RevPhil

Just a couple of my own thoughts to add...
A) Is second gear that big of deal?
B) We are busy people, and I think we like it that way (most of the time). I will admit the yard work was my idea...we had lots of fun though. The kids were real troopers. They picked up rocks (to transport from one flower bed to another ...also my idea:) for a total of 8 minutes. Then, we kept hearing the infamous words..."Are we done yet?" For them it was on to bigger and better things...frogs and geckos!!! I will also admit that the replanted rose bush looks great...three inches make a HUGE difference!!! Thanks Phil!!! It was nice to all be outside working together, making memories:)
C) We are getting old. Today, someone even pointed out my gray hair. You know your "buddies" when you can be honest about gray hair. I am even on the injured-reserved list for our co-ed softball team...can you say pinky toe into the toybox...purple toe, blue foot:(
D) Phil is lame. I am not.
Until next time,
Wife of RevPhil

Very sorry to hear about the Stang. Rebuilt trannys are like buying a good watermelon at HEB, a hit or miss affair. Teaches us reliance on something we cannot control.

Hope you and Anna have a safe, uninjured week!

I feel your pain on the planting. I don't plant anything without Kim by my side telling me exactly where to put it. Also, I don't hang pictures unless Kim tells me where to hang them. I have no sense of spatial awareness.

We are old and lame, nothing else needs to be said. Now, if someone asks me to go somewhere after its dark I have to seriously consider if I want to be out that late.

To Anonymous: Do you mind telling us what you were doing when you kicked the kid's toy box? I understand that is quite a story in and of itself.

Now, everyone join in my chant....

Super impressed that my husband did not mention anything about NOT having cable when he grew up. Usually that's his response to anything from the 80's that was televised. Way to go, Dwain. I'm proud of you working through that!

Dwain -

Don't feel bad about the cable thing - we didn't have cable until I was like 15 either.

And...

Anna just shared that she's never seen Top Gun. Wow. We have to remedy this situation...soon.

Peace -
